Water Refraction

For this assignment I had to pick a type of macro photography that was unique from everyone else’s. I decided to do water refraction photography since it was unique, and a challenge.

Through this project I learned that this process was a lot more difficult then I anticipated. In the beginning it was hard to get the right camera settings, without making the picture blurry. Once I found out how to do that, it went easier. I then learned that there are certain objects that work best through the reflection. Flowers backgrounds worked better then different patterned paper backgrounds. Overall I learned how to make water different backgrounds reflect through water droplets which I did on a tree branch, since it was the easiest way.

Yes I do think I was successful with this project because I did what my topic required by reflecting objects through water droplets. I also chose a unique type of macro photography, which makes me successful. If I could do this project over, I would buy more flowers from the store, and I would have started earlier in the day for more light. For other projects in the future, I will go outside my comfort zone and challenge myself more. I think I will use ideas from this project in the future. For example, reflecting things through water. I think that is very cool and unique.

Balloon Portraits

For this assignment we had to first research different types of portraits, then pick one that interested us. The type of portrait type that interested me was balloon portraits. I thought it was a unique type of portrait photography that you do not see often. I bought 8 balloons in all different colors that I thought went well together, and I had my friend wear a neutral colored dress. I made her wear this so the balloons really stood out in the picture. I then wanted to pick a setting that wasn’t distracting yet still pretty, which is why I picked the Holiday Road Bridge.

I learned through this project how to utilize a prop (the balloons) and make each picture different from the one before. I did this with different poses and different views with the balloons.

I do think I was successful with this project because I picked a unique type of portrait photography and did what it required. I utilized the balloons and the model without either overshadowing the other. Each photo I took was different, while still using the balloons. If I had to do this project again I would do some more locations, to change it up a bit. This project will effect my other projects in the future by being able to use props and not having them overshadow the model. Having them both complement each other. In the future, I may use balloons again but in a different location such as a field.
