“Out of Focus” Photographs

This week in class we had to take 10 out of focus pictures that had some sort of pattern or color in it to make it more appealing. We then had to edit them in photoshop to make the pictures look abstract. I used various filters and combined them to make the pictures look more unique.

Abstract art is all about creativity and uniqueness. You can make almost anything look abstract, it just depends how you view things. The definition of abstract is, “existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence.” Usually when people do abstract art, you can tell whatever the subject is, but it isĀ  different interpretation to it. I do think my photographs are considered to be abstract because they all are differently interpreted and use a variety of mediums to make them up.

I do think I was successful with this project since I made my pictures unique by the use of different filters. I still made it somewhat easy to tell what the object was, but it still looked different/abstract from its normal state. In the future, I do plan on using ideas from this project. I will make sure in other assignments that my pictures are unique and creative in different ways. I mostly plan on using the different filters since they create really cool effects, and will add extra detail/creativity to my photos.

Optical Illusion Independent Study

TwoFaceIllusion1This week I had to pick a type of optical illusion that was unique and tricked people’s minds. I decided to do the two faced optical illusion where a person’s face looks like they are facing two ways (front and sideways) at the same time. In order to make this illusion I had to take 2 pictures, one profile and one sideways. I then had to refine their edges in Photoshop and combine them together to create this illusion.

In this project I learned how to do the edit to make this illusion through Photoshop. It was a lot harder then I thought it would be, and took a lot more time then I anticipated. This is why I could only use 2 models because it took so much time to edit the pictures to make the illusion.

I do think I was successful in this project since I challenged myself and made the illusion I wanted to. If I had to do this assignment over I would do more editing at home, so I could get at least one more model. This project will help me with other projects by letting me know I can take on challenges, and learn new things. Also it gave me a better perspective on editing techniques in Photoshop. I may use the editing technique for other projects like this in the future, since it is so unique.
